Extended Index (all Volumes) and
Selected Samples of Text and Photographs
work in progress September 2012
Compiled by Rainer Schneider
Attention: This is only a small sample analysing and presenting the contents of c. 50 adverts in the Chicago Defender
(from the year 1920). It is intended to be a proposal for an exhaustive presentation and analysis of the content of newspapers, text and advertisements.

Data come from a MS-ACCESS data base, converted into a printable PDF text file. Entries are alpha-numerically sorted. Each entry is
given a "category" according to its nature (individual person, song title, name of orchestra a.s.o.). For each entry any details reported
in the newspaper are given under "details" (which gives you an idea of what you can expect from the source. In many cases the
full original source will not give more information). A soub-group left hand informs about the sub-category and of type of the source (advertisement or editorial text).
At the right you will find the name of the newspaper, the issue date, and the JazzAd Volume, where you can find it, is identified.
